Aidan Bishop Aidan Bishop
Native New Yorker Aidan Bishop has become one of Ireland's exciting new acts. He began his comedy career in New York, regularly appearing at New York Comedy Club and Stand Up New York. However, since relocating to Dublin in January 2003 he has become one of the hardest working men on the Irish comedy circuit. As resident MC of the now famous International Comedy Club, he has honed his craft in the same room as some of Ireland’s most famous comedians.

However his ambitions have not been confined to the small borders of the International. He has supported acts in Vicar Street, performed at the Empire in Belfast, Cuba in Galway, City Limits in Cork and regularly appears around the country. His debut performance at the Cat Laughs festival in June '05 received rave reviews.

Reuben "Comedy Without Words" Reuben
Reuben is from County Wicklow in Ireland and has performed comedy without words since 2001. He plays multiple characters, simultaneously, in bizarre sketches without using dialogue and relies only on body language and voice intonation. No costumes, no props.

Reuben won 'Gag of the Year' and 'Most Original Act' at the annual Dublin Comedy Cellar awards and won 98FM's 'Funniest person in Dublin' competition. He has performed on the Late Late Show: the longest running chat show in the world, twice on The Liffey Laughs comedy show and on Gay Byrne’s New Year’s Eve TV Show.

He was selected to perform in Edinburgh for Channel 4's 'So You Think You're Funny' competition and reached the televised BBC3 New Comedy Awards in London.

Reuben was also an official street-performer of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and yet is the only person to ever perform in the Comedy Store in London without speaking or using props.

Reuben has performed with all the top comedians in Ireland: Dara O’Briain, Barry Murphy, Ed Byrne, Ardal O’Hanlon, Colin Murphy, Jason Byrne, Apres Match and worked with Perrier winners: Daniel Kitson and Tommy Tiernan.

Ava Vidal Ava Vidal
Ava Vidal is an accomplished young stand-up and has risen quickly through comedy's ranks. This includes roles in all the main BBC channels: "The Crouches" for BBC1, "Sack Race" for BBC2 and "Malai Monologues" for BBC3.

She presented MTV Base's "Screen Nation Awards", the leading ceremony recognising black British TV and film talent, alongside Red Dwarf star Danny John Jules.

Ava has performed at many of the leading venues both here and abroad, from the Comedy Store in London to Berlin's Blue Monday club. This year saw her first Edinburgh Fringe show, Bling Blush Bonk, at The Gilded Balloon.

She then transferred her skills from character comedy to straight stand-up achieving success in national competitions, including in the Hackney Empire New Act competition and Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny, in addition to her BBC New Comedy Award success.

Most recently Ava has taken part in "Kings of Comedy" for Channel 4/E4 and despite her inexperience in comparison to the other comics taking part, she still made it to the final week. She is currently filming a documentary for Channel 4 being produced by Juniper Productions.

Widely acclaimed her as a face of the future by the critics, Ava is certainly an act to watch.

Bernard O'Shea Bernard O'Shea
Bernard O'Shea started on stage playing Traditional Irish Music. Coming from a musical background comedy was never on the agenda until he went to College in Dundalk where he studied Theatre.

After appearing in The Cruicble (Arthue Millar) A whistle in the Dark (Tom Murphy) Sive (T.B Keane) and a stint working behind stage in The Abbey Theatre and several professional productions he was asked to enter the Harp Comedy Awards for new comics in 2000 which he won. Later he reached the BBC New Comedy Awards in London and toured Ireland extensivly.

His on-stage companion "Susan" his guitar, compounds Bernard in the "Musical" style of Comedy, however is just as composed telling stories.

Bernard O'Shea's mind snapped one day and he suddenly began singing about killer cats, inflatable dolls and wetting the bed (it's unclear whether or not this actually happened during a show).

He won the Harp Comedy Award in 2000, he tours extensively throughout the U.K., and Ireland's Hotpress described his comedy as "Left field in as much as it's not up its arse." (those silver-tongued devils...)

Brendan Dempsey Brendan Dempsey
Since first taking to the stage in 1991, Brendan has performed stand-up to audiences all over Ireland and Britain, in Europe, as well as Canada, the USA, Asia, Africa, and across Australia. The only continents he has not played are Antarctica and South America. Cold, inhospitable - uninhabited in parts and suffering terrible economic downturns in others. Coincidence? Perhaps, but do you really want to take that chance . ?

The start of this year saw Brendan in Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York, though he's still most widely recognised for his role as Jim Kelly - the Lottery rep in Waking Ned (Devine). Brendan's other film credits include the hit comedy, About Adam, Separation Anxiety and Moll Flanders. For Television, he's been in the Father Ted Christmas special, Couched, Podge & Rodge, and The End for RTE. Brendan's stand up has been recorded and broadcast by RTE, ITV, BBC and Channel 4.

Carol Tobin Carol Tobin
In her two years on the Irish and British comedy circuits Carol Tobin has rapidly established herself as one of the hottest acts to watch out for, let alone one of the top female comedians plying their trade. Two years ago she said goodbye to her seven alcoholic siblings and moved to Dublin to become a full time comedian. This move was met with almost instant success as she was runner up in Today FM's 'Go On Be Funny Competition' (finishing ahead of even Maeve Higgins now of Naked Camera fame), in the end she was only beaten by the constraints of the final being live on Irish daytime radio which curtailed her range of filthy but hilarious songs. She has is more than a one trick pony however and now performs a mix of songs and cutting edge stand up, which has led to her headlining venues all over the country; Cork, Galway, Limerick, Dublin, Dundalk, Kerry, Carlow, Belfast, Kilkenny- the list is very extensive. Her success is ongoing having recently recorded a performance at Vicar Street for the new series of the RTE 2's hit stand up show The Liffey Laugh. She plays regularly across the UK (including two Edinburgh festivals) and is a massive favourite on the corporate and college circuits in her native land. A top act not to be missed!

Charlie Pickering Charlie Pickering
Why should we see your show?
It will be socially crippling for you to miss it. You know how people always say, "Where were you when man walked on the moon?" The people of Auckland and Wellington will talk about this show in the same way. It has the potential to be the culturally defining moment of a generation and to miss it would be social suicide somewhere in the order of not reading the Da Vinci Code or not watching bro'Town. This is the zeitgeist, and you can't afford to miss it. Who am I kidding? It's just an hour of funny jokes. It won't change the world but it will make you feel good.

Tell us a joke in 25 words or less.
Your mother's so fat that since her divorce her low self-esteem has made her incapable of forming a lasting or meaningful relationship. Boooyah! I'm here all week. Try the veal. What makes you laugh out loud? I was doing a load of washing and I forgot to button up my duvet cover before I put it in the machine. When I went to get everything out of the machine, I found that all of the smaller items had ended up inside the duvet cover. My response was, "Oh no. The duvet's eaten the pillowcases." I found this to be a silly and hilarious concept. So now, I never button up the duvet when I wash it. Instead, I pretend that it's a remorseless garment-eating beast of mythical repute that will never be satisfied. Every time I open the washing machine, I feign hysteria yelling, "Oh dear lord, it's happened again! Those poor socks, they were only five. Oh, when will the carnage end?" It is almost fun enough to make doing the washing enjoyable.

What's the worst line you've ever delivered?
I was once on tour in a town called Albany (deep southwestern Australia). On the way there I had visited an open-cut mine. I said on stage that night that it was the "biggest hole I'd ever seen, second only to ... " I had meant to say the name of a rival town that I had played the previous night but accidentally said Albany. The gig never really took off after that.

Without looking it up, give us a scientific explanation of laughter.
A random and inexplicable phenomenon by which certain stimuli cause an involuntary spasm and breathing irregularity that, while making you look like a bit of an oddball, also makes you feel really good.

If you weren't a comedian you would be ... ?
Lost ... or a teacher ... but probably lost.

Colm O'Regan

Colm O'Regan

Colm O’Regan has being doing comedy since the end of 2004 yet in that short timehe has made a big impact. 2007 has been a busy year so far as he has played at the prestigious invite-only Montreal Just for Laughs festival and also made his Edinburgh Fringe debut playing in various showcases including “Best of Irish” – 5 stars, ‘Emphatically Funny’ – 3 Weeks.

He has played the 2006 and 2007 Kilkenny Cat Laughs festivals and has gigged all around Ireland, Scotland and even as far afield as Tokyo and Osaka.

Colm also appears regularly as a panellist on Irish radio station Newstalk.

Ireland’s premier listings magazine Hot Press has described him as ‘so funny he could reduce a 19th century Russian novelist to tears’. This scenario has thus far remained hypothetical.

Colum McDonnell Colum McDonnell
Be warned !  Stand back! Colum McDonnell is Irelands fastest rising comedy star, and its about time too! A stand up comedian and comedy writer widely known for his appearances with the dynamic duo Podge and Rodge both in their television and live shows in Vicar Street and beyond.
What Colum McDonnell lacks in stature, he gains in laughter. The "wee" man hails from Dundalk, a small independent principality on the Irish border, ruled by their royal family, The Corrs. Colum began his career in his home town, and quickly established himself as a firm favorite on the Irish comedy circuit, with his unusual and often self depreciative outlook on family, life, love and the pain of being the last living hobbit in Ireland.
Colum has played all the major clubs in Ireland including Vicar Street and the Laughter Lounge, touring with the likes of Ardal O'Hanlon, Joe Rooney, Jason Byrne and Colin Murphy. He has also become a regular on the festival circuit both at home and abroad. In 2007 alone, Colum was one third of the "Young Gifted and Green" show that played the Edinburgh festival, he has performed for the third year running at the Electric picnic international comedy tent, and played his fourth Kilkenny Cat laughs festival!
Colum also spent three weeks entertaining Australian audiences on his first trip to the Adelaide comedy festival with the "Cream of Irish" show, which he really enjoyed despite forgetting to take a camera, and so has no pictorial evidence that he was ever there.
Colum rounded off 2007 with an appearance on The Paramount comedy channels ' The World Stands Up' show, the prestigious invitation only stand up show showcasing the cream of stand up from around the globe, where Colum warned people of the perils of bumper car rides.
2008 has been a busy year for Colum. He was voted onto The Sunday Tribunes ’50 to watch in 2008’ list, worked and toured extensively with the Podge and Rodge scoundrels and starred in a short film ‘up for air’ which was screened at the Belfast  film festival and Galway Film Fleadh, and is due to be aired on RTE.
Go and see him now! He will make you laugh and you will laugh, laugh your little wet pants off. So bring a spare pair, you have been warned!

Damien Clark Damien Clark
West Australian Damian Clark burst into the stand-up comedy scene when winning the 2000 Perth Comedy Fringe Award, sending him to the Adelaide Fringe. In 2001, Damian's energetic humour saw him selected to be part of The Comedy Zone - a Melbourne International Comedy Festival initiative that supports and produces up-and-comers in the industry. With his lively and energetic approach, Damian then teamed up with fellow 'zoner' and Perth comedian Anthony Menchetti for a sell out season of their show The Art of Schmoozing in the 2002 Comedy Festival. In 2003, Damian was heard as one of Perth Nova 937's Breakfast Crew (Damo, Nat & Craig). After another successful solo show in the 2005 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Damian Clark "Lays it on Thick" it was back to the Edinburgh Fringe with The Bandit which received packed crowds and rave reviews. While in Edinburgh, Clark filmed a comedy documentary of his time in the Festival for Foxtel's The Comedy Channel to be aired in Oz, nationwide. Damian's stand-up has also been seen nationally on ABC TV's 'Stand Up!' and variety talk show 'Rove Live'. Check out "The Adventures of Silky Ribbons". Quality. Dave McSavage
The 38-year-old Dubliner showes great talent for cutting close to the truth, the awful truth of life, throughout his repertoire. His gig contains quirky insights, philosophical rants, hilarious impressions and much crowd heckling. He has a dark, subversive, and at times unsettling sense of humour. You have to like his personality - that is the rule for enjoying one of his gigs. He is a wanderer and street performer at heart and is happiest with a guitar in his hand. He uses the guitar to great effect during the gig, giving the impression he is making up hilarious songs on the spot.

The whole performance appears to be a cathartic one for McSavage - he lets it all hang out, to allow his own rants, thoughts, ramblings, and notions to flow. He does not hold back on any of the gory details, when he came to his material on sexuality, relationships and Irish identity. He will push the boat out on a number of issues. Being explicit and graphic is no problem to him.

His impressions of comedian Dara O'Briain and Pat Kenny are priceless. McSavage, you may remember, appeared on The Late Late Show recently. He kept picking on the punters at the back and trying to persuade them to fill the empty seats up front. Two people did oblige at one stage and McSavage insisted on buying them a drink each, and later on sang an ode to the girl's beauty.

Dermot Carmody
".comparisons between Bono and the Pope made some girls in the audience laugh so much they could be heard all the way to the Vatican" ... "it's refreshing to see that Carmody is still able to teach himself - and us - new tricks" . "his easy-going style and quick-witted banter lend proceedings an air of pleasing spontaneity and engender a palpable feeling of goodwill"
Irish Independent (May 2004)

"Well-crafted bittersweet but acidly funny songs. Carmody makes the most of his wiry frame and bug-eyed countenance to create an almost cartoonishly melancholy onstage character. Over the years his whimsy has become increasingly edged with a sharper, more perceptive wit"
Liam Fay, Sunday Times

Dermot McMurrow Dermot McMurrow
Dermot McMurrow has to be the find of the year. What a comedian- he's surreal, intelligent, clownish and also genuinely a sandwich short of a picnic. To tell an isolated show from his tale would be impossible as everything is joined together so well. Let's just say if he has any doubts about his career change to comedy, they should stop now. McMurrow is already a comedy giant- he should be doing his own shows next year! The Kilkenny people

This review from this years Smithwicks Cats Laughs Festival paints a deservedly flattering portrait of one of the Irish comedy circuit's most loved performers. Having headlined pretty much every venue there is to headline in Ireland he has also supported both Des Bishop and David McSavage on nationwide tours and is currently making inroads on the UK comedy scene. If you still have any doubts about whether to go and see him or not, just bear in mind that the Kilkenny people that has reviewed every Cats Laugh Festival there has ever been in detail picked this guy out as the best act this year amongst all the big names in Irish, British and international comedy

Dermot Whelan Dermot Whelan
Dermot burst on to the comedy scene late in 2004. In his first year, he has performed at the Kilkenny Cat's Laugh Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and, more recently, at Vicar Street in the Liffey Laughs for RTE television. He has also been shortlisted for the BBC New Comedy Awards 2005. Dermot hosts a weekday breakfast show on the hugely successful Dublin radio station 98FM and is host of TV3's football entertainment programme, The Offside Show. Dermot is especially proud of his acting success. He appeared in the 2003 Irish comedy classic Spin the Bottle as Garda # 2. He had two lines: "C'mon now, Son" and "Move out of the way there, Son". Genius. Although a relatively new comer to the comedy scene, Dermot's professionalism and sense of humour have already made him a name to watch. See him soon.

Earl Okin Earl Okin
Forties throwback Okin is a true original; a distinctive, eccentric figure on the stand-up circuit since before such a phrase even existed.

He's a self-styled musical genius and sex symbol, unlikely as that may seem for an overweight, lisping and slightly seedy man in three-piece suit and vintage spats.

In fact, you're never quite convinced the constant references to his sexual prowess that pepper his urbane banter are self-deprecating, or whether he really is deluded enough to believe them.

It's only when he sings, do you understand where he's coming from. His come-hither style is languorous and seductive, in profound contrast to the pompous, slightly ridiculous figure on stage.

But it's not for this reason - or at least not entirely - that he's also referred to as Ol' Horny Mouth. Instead, that moniker comes from his astonishing ability to recreate a small brass section, without the need for any sort of instrument.

Ed Byrne Ed Byrne

Jack is a Dublin based Magician who specialises in blending comedy with magic and we're definitely not talking spinning bow ties or rabbits in hats!

Jack discovered his flair for entertaining and gift for sleight of hand and at the tender age of twelve. He would delight his schoolmates by vanishing sweets in the face of a furious local shopkeeper!

Often referred to as the "Magician to the Stars", it's his stunning close up magic, Jedi Mind Tricks and irreverent sense of humour that's made him the choice for celebrities such as Bono, Robbie Williams and the Corrs.

And now he's taking it to the stage for what promises to be for fifteen minutes of pee your pants entertainment.

James Goldsbury James Goldsbury
This is his new one-man show, the snappily titled 'JAMES GOLDSBURY, MOUTHPIECE'. With the RTE New Comedy Award in his back pocket as well as finalist in London's 2004 Hackney Empire Comedy Act Of The Year and two hugely successful Edinburgh Comedy festivals up his sleeve, Goldsbury's bizarre voices would leave even Professor Stephen Hawking gasping in awe.

With jokes more thought provoking than The Just A Minute Quiz and routines more exciting than catching a go of Gerry Adam's pad on MTV Cribs, Goldsbury will pose such questions as: "How can Michael Jackson go on TV and claim that he's never had plastic surgery with a straight face?" and "Could Mary Harney get herself into the sack after spiking her own Mojito with Rohypnol?".

With more gags than you'd get from drinking a pint of warm egg yolks, a few hours spent with Goldsbury will fill you with so much happiness, love and joy, even the Harvey Norman ads will be music to your ears... GO JIMMY, GO!

John Colleary John Colleary
He comes along and with his usual style of seeming to come up with things on the spot and each a crazier idea than the last. One by one people were coming up to me asking was this the guy that played, (Ros)Common people and I said yes! Emily had seen him on the radio! Wow! that was weird! He had been invited onto Spin 103.8 by Jack Kinkaid and the song had gone down a storm then, every time John does a gig he storms it and the guitar is never far away. Everyone was hoping that he might do it. Just when it looked like he was finished his set he picked up the guitar and immediately the shout went out from the crowd for Roscommon people. Is there ever a time when John Colleary doesn't satisfy a crowd.

Johnny Candon Johnny Candon
The headline act tonight is an amiable Irish comedian who had many a woman swooning in their seats. Johnny would be one of those blokes it would be easy to hate - very funny and good looking enough to make several women around me mutter "cor" under the breath. Johnny is similar to another Irish comic we featured recently, Eddie Bannon, in that he's amiable in the extreme and chats away to the audience like they're old friends. An experienced stand-up Johnny regularly plays at established UK comedy venues including Jongleurs & The Comedy Store.

Maeve HigginsMaeve Higgins
Maeve Higgins is an up and coming shop assistant by day, and a stand up comedian by night!

She used to moonlight as a bouncer in comedy clubs around the country, and was sometimes allowed to do stand-up if the crowd seem drunk enough. She's now been tickling people pink for a year!

Every now and then though, a person wanders up to her and says "Hey you! Girls aren't funny!" To which she replies, "Oh yeah? Well, that's why I work in a clothes shop buddy". Then they both depart, confused.

As well as her challenging career as a t-shirt folder and a comic, Maeve does a radio slot every Tuesday on the Ray D'arcy Show on Today FM, discussing crucial issues and trying not to make mouth sounds (she hates when other people on the radio make mouth sounds). She also featured on hit show Naked Camera on RTE2, where she tricked unsuspecting members of the public, then felt bad, but kept doing it anyway, because it was fun. She is also soon to be seen making her television stand up debut on the new series of The Liffey Laugh on RTE 2. Patrick McDonnell
Be afraid, because Naked Camera is back. And Revolution hosts Pat Mcdonnell, on of its stars this Tuesday Night, if your in the audiesce, you could be its star or at least a friend or loved one could! Previous to Naked Camera Patrick was the roving reporter in 'Don't Feed The Gondolas' and the country-singer character, well-known to 'Father Ted' fans as Eoin McLove.

Patrick McDonnell has been standing up and making people laugh since 1996, when he appeared as a novice at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival. He later went on to appear in the final of Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny? competition in Edinburgh. Since then he has returned to both festivals, appeared in a film with a band synonymous with his act (the very scary Prodigy) and continues to impress audiences in Britain and Ireland with his unique brand of outraged nonsense.

His television appearances include The Empire Laughs Back for BBC N.I, RTE's The Lounge, and The Candidate from @ Last TV, plus a weekly slot as the roving reporter on Don't Feed the Gondolas. However, he is probably best recognised for his performance as country singer Eoin McLove on the hit series Father Ted. Damo from Father Ted) which played to sell out crowds and received rave reviews.
